Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council established the Ethiopian Muslims Development Agency, EMDA, as its development wing in November 2000.
EMDA was re-registered with Charities and Societies Agency of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in 2009 with registration # 0374 and recently on March 20, 2020, Re-registered with the registration number 0374 and licensed in accordance with the new CSO proclamation as board lead local faith-based organization.Products and services that are simple, elegant, and powerful that unleash new value and revolutionize organizations.
Ever since its establishment it has been engaged in many social development programs in collaboration with government, CBOs, FBOs, International and local NGOs. It operates as Local non-governmental organization.
Our History
EIASC established EMDA as its development wing to alleviate economic and social problems prevailing in the country and to promote development activities. Since its establishment, the organization has been implementing multidimensional participatory and need based development programs in different parts of the country among different nations, nationalities and peoples, and made a significant contribution to the overall Social and economic development registered during the last two decades especially in improving the maternal and child health in remote pastoralist community of Afar and Somali, women empowerment ,poverty reduction, peace Building ,Human Rights ,capacity building and environmental rejuvenation efforts of the country.Strategic Goals
EMDA has strategic goals and objectives for the organization and the sectoral focus areas. The major strategic goals of the organization include:
Empowerment
To empower disadvantaged children, OVCs, adolescent and young girls to reach their potential through quality education.
Improve Health
To improve the health and overall wellbeing of the target communities
Improve Households
To improve target households’ access to adequate food and nutrition to lead healthy and active life.
Reduce Vulnerability
To reduce the vulnerability of Orphans and Vulnerable children (OVCs) and improve their living conditions and overall wellbeing
Opportunities
Broadening opportunities for sustainable livelihoods for the poor and marginalized community
Building Capacity
To build vulnerable households’ adaptation and recovery capacities to shocks and stress induced by climate change
Saving Lives
To Save lives and Protect Livelihoods of the people affected by humanitarian crises such as drought and/conflict
Human Rights
Human Rights and Religious literacy through interfaith and intra faith dialogue.
